The community the John R. Dover Memorial Library serves does not have an adequate library within a 15 mile radius apart from a small library in the YMCA. Therefore, we are striving to serve as a surrogate public library for the Boiling Springs community. As part of this effort, we are in the planning stages of providing a story time program for preschoolers twice a month. This program would consist of picture book readings led by a community volunteer, songs, and crafts to engage our community’s children. As part of this program, we will be using the NC Live resource, "Just For Kids", to play songs and video clips that will enhance the overall story time experience. This program will provide our Education students a service learning opportunity. The long-term impact of this project would be to increase access to literacy within the county and patronage in the library.
