New Approaches to Student Workers

For many years, our library has had student workers. They primarily shelve and work the desk. In 2019 I started a peer research counseling training program with mild success. This initiative was brought to a halt during the pandemic. However, the pandemic made me think of new ways to utilize student assistants. Some of my students had to work from home, and they stepped up to any task they were given. Now our students help facilitate book clubs, lead seminars, add to LibGuides, and help with the LMS. Our new training for the students offers a "build your resume" section. We talk to the students about what they would like to do and attempt to give them experience in that area. For example, one of our art students put a digital exhibit together. Come find out how to get the most out of your student workers, and allow them to get the most out of their job.
