Neuse Regional Libraries staff will share their experiences with creating a Digital Media Lab and providing one-on-one staff assisted sessions for the creation of music, spoken word materials such as podcasts, video, and 3D animation/modeling. Presenters will discuss how the Digital Media Lab provides patrons with a resource to increase their digital media literacy, an overlooked but increasingly vital form of 21st century literacy. The presentation will cover the process of obtaining funding for the grant and Digital Media Specialist position through a Library Services and Technology grant, the implementation of the lab, and the Library’s procedures for offering one-on-one assistance during scheduled sessions. Presenters will also show how they are using digital media platforms like Soundcloud and Behance to engage potential new users and demonstrate the effectiveness of the Digital Media Lab to the community.
